Sultan Gate is the name of a road leading to the Istana Kampong Glam (once the seat of Malay royalty in Singapore). Also on this street is the Bendahara House of Palladian architectural influence, and built by Haji Yusof, in the 1920s at No. 73 Sultan Gate. It is situated immediately outside the Istana Kampong Glam palace grounds. Haji Yusof's descendants lived in this bungalow until the late 1990s.Bendahara in Malay means "Chief Minister". On 7 July 1989, the historic district of Kampong Glam was gazetted a conservation area, and the two- and three-storey shophouses along this short stretch have were restored as part of these conservation plans. It was also announced on 12 March 1999, that the Istana Kampong Glam together with Bendahara House will be preserved and converted into a "Malay Heritage Centre".

Ablution-- before praying and entering the Mosque, Muslims must wash themselves with water. They wash themselves 3 times on the right arm, followed by the left 3 times, then the mouth, the nose, then the forehead, followed by 3 times on the right leg, then the left leg 3 times. If water supply is not enough, they need to wash themselves with sand.

The tour guide is explaining to the class more about the Mosque and Muslim rules, regulations, terms and conditions.A muslim has to obey 5 rules:

1) Alla is god, Muhammad is messenger of god

2) Muslims have to pray five times:

- before sun rises

- after sun rises

- noon

- late afternoon

- dusk.

3) A Muslim has to fast in the month of Hari Raya from dawn to dusk.

4) Zagat cut three to four dollars from their salary to donate to the poor

5)Go to the holy land once a lifetime and walk 7 rounds around "the Talking Stone".

Sultan Mosque

Masjid Sultan is located at Muscat Street and North Bridge Road within the Kampong Glam district of Rochor Planning Areain Singapore. The mosque is considered one of the most important mosques in Singapore. The prayer hall and domes highlight the mosque's star features.

We are at Kampong Glam!! Finally... after 30 minutes, we are at Sultan street.

How did Kampong Glam get its name? It is named from a tree called Gelam tree.

The Gelam tree is commonly found in Kampong Glam. The bark of the Gelam tree is used for repairing boats as there are many fishermen in the past. This tree has another use:its leaves are used for medicated oil. Byes for now!! More infomation will be posted later
